Homemade granola

I am always on the search for after school snacks for kids. I found a recipe on Pinterest. Where else would I look?!My kiddos love them

1/2 c. honey or corn syrup {I used 1/4 c. of each}
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. peanut butter
2 c. quick oats
2 c. Rice Krispy cereal
1/4 c. ground flax seed
1 or 2 T. wheat germ {optional — and I did not add this}
1 c. total of your favorite mix-ins {I used chocolate chips, but you could also mix and match dried fruit, nuts, seeds, etc.}

In a small sauce pan, mix honey {or corn syrup} and brown sugar.

Cook over medium-high heat until sugar is completely dissolved – stirring constantly.

Remove from heat and quickly stir in peanut butter.

Mix the oats, cereal, flax seed, and optional wheat germ in a large bowl.

Pour honey mixture over dry ingredients — mix well.

Stir in chocolate chips, nuts, fruit, and any other “mix-ins”

Press mixture into a 9″ x 13″ pan that has been greased or lined with wax paper. {I find it works best when I put another piece of wax paper on top of the bars and press down with a measuring cup.}

Let cool and “firm up” — kind of like Rice Krispy Bars

Cut into bars and store in an air-tight container. I cut mine into 24 bars that were about 1″ x 4″ {8 rows by 3 rows}. I used a pastry cutter/scraper because it cuts really straight lines — but a long knife would work just fine too.

And since I used chocolate chips, I figured it would be best to store our granola bars in the refrigerator so they don’t melt!

Passing it on

As I was reading during my quiet time I came upon proverbs 22: 6. Train your children to live the right way,and when they are old,they will not stray from it.
I really love this verse. I sometimes feel like I want to pass my dreams onto my children,but in reality it really is not fair. They have their own dreams . It's hard for me to steer away from this direction and temptation . Being a good mom or effective mom does not mean creating someone who is exactly like you,but guiding your children to the direction they want to go. It means listening to their dreams and encouraging them to follow their own calling. This way they develope their own character,gifts and strengths. It gives them a chance to listen to God in their own lives.
I would feel so guilty if I guided them in the direction I wanted them to go in and have them live such an unfulfilled life and have many regrets.
I will guide them to follow their own agenda and expose them to different options and to encourage them and let them seek God's guidance and seek their own passions . Don't allow your dreams to be your child's dreams, let them be successful in making their own decision.
This was just on my heart and this verse just laid heavy on me. It is such a true reality for so many.

“Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me.”

Yummy PB Hummus

I am always looking for new and different things to bring to parties and my monthly bunco. Pinterest is the best place to find those kind of things. I found a recipe for PB hummus. I was not sure how it was going to taste,but everybody at Bunco loved it and asked for the recipe. I thought I would share it with you.
  Sorry about the lack of posts. I think I am the only blogger that has a hard time coming up with topics to write about it or I forget to take pictures. I get so annoyed with myself sometimes. Anybody else struggle with this?

Anyway, back to the recipe

PB Chocolate Chip Dessert Hummus

2 cups rinsed and drained chick peas

1/3 cup creamy peanut butter

1/4 cup maple syrup

1/2 tbs vanilla extract

Chocolate chips- as much as you want.

Mix first 4 ingredients in a blender/food processor until smoooooooth and creamy. Resist the urge to stick your face in the blender- transfer to a bowl instead (or, if you're classy like me, a glad tupperware container) fold in all the chocolate chips you want. Dip everything from graham crackers to your fingers in it and enjoy!

Hope you enjoy it>

TGIF! Although we have nothing really going on this weekend, I am just looking forward to just hanging out and do some simple things. Ryan and I have a company dinner on Sat, but that is the only big even going on.
Not a whole lot of pictures, but a few .

I love when I get thirty one boxes on my porch filled with new products and fabrics. Lots of good ones. Including chevron!

Ready for school

She loves to show off her belly

The options are endless on what I can do with the pile of straws and Pom poms.

Kaelis made a friend at gymnastics. Daddy was not thrilled . He was so cute!

Crazy this is the temp here in the middle of January. I will take it.

I love my protein smoothies

Kaelis was putting the naked babies to bed. Not sure they look real comfortable . One baby has her foot in the other babies face.
I still find it cute.

Welocome to Friday! It is my last day of winter Break. I think I am ready to get back into a routine again and I think the kids are ready to get back themselves.

I checked this book out to get started . We shall see how it goes .

Doing a little shopping and acting goofy.

My wreath I made for the door . I still need to make some adjustments to it.

I am beyond excited for the 31 spring catalog. Yipee !

I decided to make a letter of the week snowman for daycare.

My reader.

This was at Aldi's. I was so tempted to buy it, but decided not too.

Word if the year.

Happy new year everyone. Ok, so I lost a follower and is really annoying and hoping it is because I have not blogged for a little bit. Holidays are over and time to get in the routine again.

So I decided instead instead of making a list of resolutions, I would pick a word for the year.
I have been putting social media and everything else in front of faith and quiet time and getting a better relationship with God. He should be my first priority. I always have excuses to not have quiet time and read the bible more and TODAY that stops.
Nothing is more important than Gods word.
So my word of the year is Faith.

God always has a plan, but sometimes it is not always when I want it to be. I am really focusing on just relying on him and letting go an know he will provide when the time is right!

What is your word of the year.
