Plaid

I never thought I would be into plaid, but there are so many ways you can wear plaid .
Of course I am going to get on Pinterest and see all the ways plaid is worn.
I love looking at the different ways to put together and then rush to my closet to see what I can find.

Check out my Plaid board on Pinterest for more Plaid wearing ways.

This looks like my closet. You cannot go wrong with 10 different plaid shirts right?

Jake

One of the moments when I want to freeze time is when our Elf Jake comes back.
The excitement on the kids faces is one that I wish would not go away.
Eyes wide open and smiles from one corner to another.

This year I want to do something different .
Jake is going to pass out kindness cards and a job for each child to do.
Jake is still here to watch how good the kids are being, but I want to make it more than that.
This is the season to give and rejoice that we can celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Looking back

As thanksgiving approaches I always think back to the past thanksgiving and those who are not with us and the memories we made and the ones we will continue to make.

- As the family gets together tommorrow we will be thinking about Granny and Grandad and know that they are rejoicing in heaven and celebrating with us.
Time is of an essence right now and I want to freeze time. When I look back at the kids and how small they were and innocent and still so innocent and enjoys life to the fullest. I sit back and look at the joy they have on their faces when the kids play with each other and how excited they get when they eat piece of pie.

I am so thankful for being able to spend time with my family and count the blessings that are around us.
Tractor rides, frying the turkey, playing board games, watching football are memories that I will look back on and be thankful for the time we had and look forward to all the memories we continue to make.

                                      What memories do you remember?

Water goal

One of my goals this year is to drink more  water. I would think working from home it would be easier to drink water. Well it is not.
Being in the basement all day and no access to water makes it tough to constantly fill up a waterbottle and chug.
There are days that I feel really sluggish and have a headache and then I realize all I have had to drink was coffee. There are times that I do not drink anything all day. That is not ok.
Why is it so hard to remember to do something that is so easy to do?
Since there is an app for basically everything, I decided to get a water app that let me know how much water I am drinking and how much more I need to drink.
I Figured since I always have my phone, that would be the a great way to see how much water I am drinking and how much more I need to drink.
When the alert goes off, I just chug it! It fills me up and I get my water all at  once, instead of over time which I would tend to forget to do.

I have a big water bottle that I refill everytime I chug, but when I am out, I carry small water bottles in my purse and when my reminder goes off  I have a bottle to chug.

So far this method has been working. I feel so much better when I am hydrated and chugging the water keeps me full so I do not feel the need to snack.
I still have to try to remember even when I hear my alert.

What tips do you have.?

Winter nails

A lot of things come with winter, including  dry brittle nails. It seems like no matter how much lotion I put one hands ,my skin and nails feel so dry and brittle. Treating my nails and keeping polish on them is a good way to keep them strong and healthy, but let's face it, with kids and work and everything else who has time to do all that? I think I can find 10 mins of my day to do a little pampering.
Target or any drugstore will have the supplies you need. You may even have them at home.

          Nail polish
            Cutical tool
             Nail clippers
                        Cream or just plain
    Olive oil
          Polish remover

I just got introduced  to Julep and  they have this easy tutorial to have the perfect manicure. Fast and simple. They also have great gift sets too.

I love color on my nails, but I have a horrible habit of chewing my nails. I know... It is a gross habit and one that is very hard to break. It seems like when I have color on , it tends to slow me Knawing my nails off! When I go looking for nail polish,I like quick drying Polish and that will not chip off.
Julep has all natural vegan free nail polish.  They have so many colors to choose from.
Here are a few of my favorites.

  Denver
  It girl

Ummm... How cool is the name?

        Meet Florence
         Classic with a twist

 Andrea
     Bombshell

Julep has so many colors I had trouble just picking a few.
Here are just a few to choose from.

Now get to your manicure. What colors do you like?

Work from home mama

I did  a guest post over at Staffordstories last year and I thought I would post  again  in case anybody is needing some tips. I changed a few things up to make it current.
I am Nicole from the Da' Clarks. I am passionate about my faith and my family and living each day to its fullest.
 I am married to a wonderful,hardworking man and we have 3 children. Kendric{9}, Cadence{7}going on 16 and Kaelis who is {4}

I work fulltime at home.  I know alot of people think working at home has perks, and it does, but it can also be very challenging and draining as well.  I have a preschool/daycare in the basement of my home and am down their usually from 7-4 with an hour or 2 of naptime and I usually go upstairs to get a few things done if I can.
I love working from home and I am blessed that I can. It allows me to stay home with my kiddos, but still bring in that income we need. I only watch teacher kids, so I have my summer off and all the school holidays, but I never stop working being a mom!
My day is chaotic and noisy, but very busy.

Here is a glimpse of our morning:
I wake up at 4:45and get ready for my workout. My husband leaves the house to workout so I do the elliptical while he is working out and will get my weights lifted and do some ab work.
I will hop in the shower about 530 and  usually downstairs by

615 or so . My kids are up by  7 and I have kids arriving around that time as well. I get the kids breakfast and I usually eat in between doing everything else. That is just the way it goes! My kids are old enough that depending on what breakfast they want, they usually get it themselves, This helps a lot and I can focus on
the daycare kids.
My kids have a late school
start so they do not have to leave until 8:45 or so I do not feel as rushed to get them out the door. I normally will take the kids downstairs to get their day started. I have a timer that goes off when it is time for my kids to leave for school and that way that is one less thing I have to worry about. They have everything
ready to go and shoes on when I head downstairs.

How we make it flow:
The only way mornings will run smooth(believe me there are days it just fails) is by getting everything prepared the night before.
My kids get home from school around 430PM. We have snack and chat about our day and then
they watch a show or play on ipad for some downtime. This is

usually when I start dinner and get a few things done.  We usually eat around 6PM or 615PM(Ryan gets home about 530PM or 6PM)and then the kids do some school work or reading before they can have some fun time.
They usually play outside  -{warm season} until 730PM during the winter and then come in to take
showers/baths, brush teeth. {we take showers around 7 in the winter }Since my kids are older, they
usually can shower themselves and then I will give Kaelis a bath. While the other 2 shower I pick out their clothes for the next morning and my clothes. This has saved so much time. I take forever picking out outfits and knowing this is already done is such a time saver. We also pack our lunches between after school and dinner
time. That way is out of the way.
After showers we do a family activity which could be watch a movie or play a game. No matter what it is we make sure we do it together. By this time it is about 830 and we prepare for bed. Our laundry room is on the 2nd level so before I go downstairs I throw a load of  laundry in and put in on the delay cycle for midnight and then the load is ready  to go
in the dryer when I get up in the morning. I fold the load at naptime.
Our routine can change a little from time to time because of school events or the kids sports events, but we always try to keep it as close as possible. Life is not perfect and neither are we and things will not get done the way I like it or a load of
laundry  might not be put in at night, but sometimes I just have to take a deep breath and know that it will get done at some point. I just move on and know the tomorrow is always a new day.

Qualitity time with my husband:
This has been an issue that has had to be ironed out. We have struggled with this issue because we are tired or I do not like what he is watching and we go to different rooms. We knew that had to change so after some deep discussions we decided that after the kids go to sleep it is our time. We
usually watch a show or sometimes just talk without cell phones or any distractions. This has helped our relationship tremendously   We get so focused on our children and spending time with them, that we forget about each other. We still have things to work on,but it gets better each day.
We also try to go on date at least once a month if not more.
Those dates are a MUST!

How I keep the house clean:
I like a tidy house, but it may not always work out that I have one!  This is where I get the family involved. My kids have know that the playroom is their room and they need to be in charge of the cleaning. i have taught them that as soon as they are finished with something, they always put it away. That way they have less to clean up at once. I try to have a home for everything and this helps with clutter. I will go in and tidy up after them if I need too,
When I cook dinner, I clean as I go. I will rinse the dish or pan I am using and put it in the dishwasher or drying rack, I will put all the ingredients away when i am finished using them. This works for me because then after dinner I am not left with a huge dinner mess to clean up. The kids will take their dishes to the sink after dinner and then I just put them in the dishwasher.  I do not like going to bed knowing I have dishes in the sink or a messy kitchen to wake up to. I make sure the kitchen is clean before going to bed.
As far as the rest of the house, I take one task at a time. I had to make a plan on paper for myself and it has worked great. Mondays I dust and clean the baseboards..., Tuesdays, I clean the bathrooms... etc..  Since I am able to get a few things done during that window of nap time, this is when I do these things. That way my weekends and my evenings are not spent cleaning. This way it is not so over whelming and I feel like I have accomplished more that way. My house seems to stay cleaner this way. We just pick up as we go.
All the beds are made in the morning. I feel like I cannot continue until the beds are made. I have always been like that.
My husband is type A so everything of his is clean and picked up so he helps out in that department.

 Spending time with friends:
This is something that needs to get better, but even though we may not get together as often as we like, I always make sure to send a hello text or a note on facebook to let them know I am thinking about them. I will ask them how their week is going or just hello.
Ryan and try to do something with our friends separately when we can. I usually will have bunco once a month with the girls on a Sat night and he will go see a movie or whatever once a month. This is just enough to be with our friends have fun. On occasion we will get a group together, but finding a sitter is tough work!

Operation shoe box

Ryan and I always teach our children to not be Beggers and to be happy with what they have. The Christmas Holiday is not always so happy to those who do not recieve presents. Ryan and I want to know that our kids will bless others that are less fortunate than us.
Operation Christmas box helps us show the kids how it makes them feel like they are blessing others.

We have been only doing 2 boxes for the 2 older kids, but next year Kaelis will do one.
We get items for a boy or girl and that age range they are in.
I love taking the kids shopping for items because they put so much thought into it.

Kendric picked out items for a 9 year old boy.

                                      Some items include:
                                      Toothbrush
                                      Some toys
                                      Card games
                                      Soap

Cadence picked out items for a 7 year old girl.
                                                              Ball
                                                              Socks
                                                              Snacks
                                                              Slinky

These are just simple small trinkets that bring joy to a boy or girl which makes our hearts happy.

Fall soup

When I think of fall I think of soup and the family sitting around the table in our warm clothes and  enjoying the fall food. I remember my mom always making chili in the fall. When I would get home from school and the smell of chili on the stove would be so comforting and welcoming. My family is not a soup family, but I always try to squeeze in at least once a week in the fall and winter.
I had an idea one night that if I make rice to go with it, it does seem so "soup" like. Ryan always says soup is not a manly meal. Do your husbands say that?

I found this soup on pinterest and I cannot wait to make it.  My family will have to like it. The love everything that is in and the rice.

Check out this board for more great "fall food" ideas.
